She watches children leave one by one
The swallows migrate to distant suns
She's left behind with the simplest few
She wishes she could go too
Stay at home and learn to be strong
Listen out for birdsong
Making sense of time unafraid
Where are the wings that she made?
They're in the shadows

When she can't find the light
She sees the swallows fly

The first went the furthest to the other side
A one-way trip on the cheapest ride
Ten pounds sterling to Australia
Not sure when she'll see her
The second fell before she was heard
Taken away by childbirth
America bound for her offspring
Grandmother's really suffering
