I can’t outrun these blues
I can’t outrun yours too
Under this cashmere moon
We don’t know what to do.
Our tears joined us in the pool that night,
I held onto to you way too tight
We both knew it
You said you hurt her oh so bad
And that I wouldn’t I understand
But I said I do believe I can
But I can’t outrun these blues
And I can’t outrun yours too
Head first into the drowning pool
Thrashing about like a fool
When we came together we were gasping for air
Knowing that love would take its fair share
We kept sailing on from there
Tradewinds to a love affair
That walked on water
And sank at the altar.
Repeat chorus 1
Love, they say, is a mystery
Not letting go,
As emptiness overflows
I’m a prisoner of my history.
A note from the lyricist
This songs inspiration comes from a relationship that was literally drowning from the beginning. Both of the parties carrying heavy loads of personal heartbreak of their own whilst trying to come together somehow.
