Krubera Cave

24 May 2026

I've been falling for you

For a long, long time

And now I look up to you

From the bottom of the Krubera Cave

I hung my love on a two-km rope

To fathom the chasm

Why I think I am beneath you

Deep feelings walled in

With no way to dig myself free

The cold reality has set in

As I sit in the game over chamber

I believe the hallucinations

The delusions that you love me too

The euphoria is taking hold

I descend to the ecstasy

Of finding my way to you

But the hardest part is getting back out.

When the deepest and best part of me

Is at the bottom of the Krubera Cave

Deep feelings walled in

With no way to dig myself free

The cold reality has set in

As I sit in the game over chamber

Trapped in love

I have come to know

The madness of

A Dead Man's Squeeze

The last unmapped frontier

What Gennadiy Samokhin

Found true in conquering the Krubera Cave

The rapture of the deep is you

Believing the hallucinations

The delusions that you love me too

The euphoria is taking hold

Here at the bottom of the Krubera Cave

The rapture of the deep is you

The happenstance of these lyrics

It was around 12:30 am, and I was up, as is often the case, and put my headphones on and started writing – and decided I had not written of / or about love for a long while.

And the first thought – what is love – DEEP LOVE – well, what is deep – Caves – now that tickled my fancy as it's not a common tie-in to the subject of Love. So, I spent over an hour researching the deepest cave(s) and those that explorers actually conquered to incredible depths. Made all my cliff notes – point form details and some outstanding terms used in caving that could bridge the theme of LOVE.

Krubera Cave was the deepest known cave in the world for 16 consecutive years, from 2001 until 2017. Gennadiy Samokhin is the man who went where no one had ever gone before. Samokhin still holds a place in history as the first person to explore a cave beyond the 2,000-meter mark and for his multiple record-breaking dives in Krubera's terminal sump.

About two hours of writing and rewriting later -- I had the first full draft completed. The other unique cave terminology I used to complete the emotional lyric tie-ins is for you to look up and discover. I hope you enjoy. It's now 4:30 AM -- time to rest a bit.
