Argument with the Weather

10 May 2026

I never won an argument with the weather,

but I tried — Lord knows I tried.

I stood on the porch and said "not today"

and the rain, very gently, said it understood.

I never won a hand against the seasons,

but I dealt myself in every time.

And autumn came and rearranged my reasons

and I called it fair and paid the fine.

But the rain, very gently, said it understood.

And the wind, without malice, said it would.

And the cold never promised to be kind,

but it kept me honest, kept me right of mind.

I never won an argument with the weather.

I learned to lose with something like good grace.
