Your Due

25 May 2026

Here I am, trying to say hello

Yes, I'm still looking to you

To let you know, to finally

Give you all that is your due

You see, I do recall things

Memories from so long ago

Though I was oh so young

How was I supposed to know

In remembering how we lived

It could never have sufficed

For my innocent heart to hold

Just how much you sacrificed

Each day, losing a part of you

You were never given your due

Hiding the bruises from everyone

I prayed for God to heal you

Never complaining or asking why

Asking so little of my love in return

While shielding me from the pain

Now I know, I had so much to learn

I should have been there for you

But I was just too small

And I really never did know

How to tell you that you were my all

But I am standing up now

Took some time, but I finally grew

And finally humble enough to say

All that I am is only because of you

Then you left, taking your broken heart

Believing the promise to make all things new

A place where the blues are just colours of the sky

Where there is more than enough love, even for you

May forever carry you and always keep you safe

I thank God for the time he gave me with you

Cause now I know I am no longer too small,

To stand up for you, to proudly stand so tall,

... and finally, say the three little words you're due.
