Last week, we opened up submissions for the featured artist slot at our first-ever SongwriterLink Open Mic Night. We were blown away by the talent of all the SongwriterLink members who applied, but we ultimately chose Emily Anderson to headline the night!
“I’m very excited to share my music at SongwriterLink’s Open Mic, and possibly make new co-writing friends!” Emily says. “It’s always so inspiring to listen to other songwriters’ material.”
The Alaska native began singing and playing piano at a young age. She cites “Regina Spektor, Ingrid Michaelson, Carole King, and several near-miss moose charges” as some of her early influences.
Emily released her self-titled album in 2010 and has since gone on to study songwriting at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. Mentorships and collaborations at Berklee were influential for the production of her new five-track EP, Nickels, which was released in August 2013.
The SongwriterLink Open Mic Night will take place on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Good Life Bar (28 Kingston Street, Boston) from 7 PM to midnight – but make sure you show up at 6:30 PM if you want to snag a 15-minute open mic slot! The event is 18+ with no cover charge, and it’s open to songwriters, poets, musicians, and creative thinkers of all kinds.
The night will be full of local music, good friends, delicious snacks from Good Life’s late night menu, special drinks and giveaways provided by Bulleit Bourbon, and much more. Plus, who knows – you just might meet your new favorite co-writer!
“I’m looking forward to incorporating SongwriterLink into my regular songwriting routine,” says Emily. “Social media is becoming such a common way to connect and collaborate, and it’s wonderful to see a site geared specifically towards songwriters.”
